If You Build It, They Will Come

Now that's a quote from "Fields of Dreams" and it has often been applied to blogging. I encountered one person in a certain forum who is very new to this whole blogging phenomenon. He asked a question as to why is his blog still not getting many traffic (I'm not sure what is his standard of the word 'many') considering that his blog is already 3 months' old.

Three months, do you guys think that is already a good enough time to expect much from a blog? In my opinion it's not enough. And I don't know the details of this fellow's blogging habits but I'm sure that the reason why he is not satisfied is because he set quite a high standard on his blog. His goal might be too hard to reach. Perhaps he's already expecting thousands of regular visitors. But at 3 months, I'd really say dream on.

There is so much work to be done with a blog especially if you expect to earn from it. Number one would be posting valuable content on a regular basis. Valuable content because what good is a blog if all that can be read on it are pure trash? And posting on a regular basis is important because if you fail to update your blog, you will lose your visitors.

That's just my two cents on this blogging topic.

Use Twitter and Plurk to Help Cagayan De Oro Flashflood Victims

I just opened my Twitter and Plurk accounts this morning and I was surprised to see the message coming from the WordPress Theme Designer herself, Chiq Montes. According to her short plurk and twit, she's asking for monetary assistance for the Cagayan de Oro flashflood victims.

If you've been following the news since last week, there were nearly a thousand people who were stranded inside their homes because of the flash flood. Many people risked their lives as they decided to vacate their homes and settle in the nearby schools and evacuation areas. Now, 80 percent of the barangays in Cagayan de Oro suffer from this disaster, according to National Disaster Coordinating Council.

I would suggest that we help in anyway we can, you can extend your assistance via donating $3 to the paypal of jamgfx@gmail.com or just a simple post (blog, plurk, twitter) of this concern will do. Hopefully these efforts will reach more people online so we can extend more help to them (to buy rice and noodles) as soon as possible.

Note: Before I finished this post, I checked for donation updates and they already raised $53. :) Now thats one good progress.

One Way to Use Entrecard

I know of some bloggers who say that Entrecard is useful only when you can make 300 drops each day. While that might be partly true, there are other ways that you can benefit from being part of this blogging community.

How about this? Let's say you've just written a very informative and wonderful post that you think a lot of people would have a good time reading it. How can you, sort of, spread the word?

Through Entrecard.

After publishing your post, start dropping your EC especially to those bloggers whom you think would like your post. About 100 drops would be enough but if you have the time, by all means do 300 drops.

This is like tapping these bloggers and whispering to them, "Hey, why not visit my blog today? I've got something really nice posted there."
